Critical Care Transport (CCT) Team paramedics provide highly-specialized care and long-distance transport between health facilities for critically ill or injured patients. The first ground based CCT Team was established in Kamloops, BC in December 2002 for the purpose of treating and transporting those patients that have a broader spectrum of needs and require a higher level of intensive care.
Since this time, specialized CCT paramedics have provided critical care transport services to the Thompson, Cariboo and Shuswap areas, enabling other health care professionals to remain in their rural and remote communities to provide essential health care.
A second dedicated CCT team also operates out of Trail BC. A joint venture with the Interior Health Authority, this team of highly skilled paramedics and nurses work together to provide ground and air transport to critically ill or injured patients requiring highly skilled medical personnel on a 24/7 basis.
CCT paramedics work from both BCAS aircraft and specially equipped ground ambulance vehicles, which include customized equipment such as centre-mount stretchers designed to manage the transport of critically ill or injured patients.
