Based out of BC Children's and Women's Hospital in Vancouver, the Infant Transport Team (ITT) utilizes the two helicopters and three fixed-wing airplanes which are specially equipped and under contract to the BC Ambulance Service. ITT aircraft are outfitted with 2,000 litres of medical oxygen, air pumps and electrical outlets; enough equipment to tend to two acute care patients.
Four ground ambulances outfitted with specialized equipment to care for young patients are also dedicated solely for use by the ITT and include built-in air pumps, high-intensity lighting and a 1,000 watt inverter to ensure battery levels on equipment are always fully charged. Since its inception, the emergency medical equipment used by the ITT has become more accurate, lighter and smaller leading to substantially improved patient outcomes.
