IRLY Bird Employees Recognized as Heroes

April 3, 2008

On January 10, Ernie Lawrence was working at the Builders Mart and IRLY Building Centre in Princeton, when he heard a strange noise. He turned to see fellow colleague William Whiting on the floor, unconscious and not breathing. With no pulse present, Lawrence called 9-1-1. Customer George Haws, a ski patroller for 15 years, immediately began CPR. Haws continued chest compressions while instructing IRLY employee Roy Rippon on keeping the airway clear and performing mouth to mouth, while Lawrence maintained contact with the BC Ambulance Service Emergency Medical Dispatcher on the phone until paramedics arrived
