Five Honoured for Lifesaving Actions

May 22, 2008

On May 28, 2008, BC Ambulance Service presented three Vital Link medals and two Good Samaritan awards in Sicamous in recognition of the heroic efforts of five individuals who initiated lifesaving Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a young boy, who was also the son and brother of two of the award recipients.

Two Eagle River Secondary School students Tyler Watson and Jason Klassen were enjoying the summer weather at the Sicamous Public Beach with family and friends, when tragedy struck. Noticing that Tyler's little brother Travis hadn't returned to the surface while playing in the water, the pair dove into ocean and together pulled Travis to shore where Tyler initiated lifesaving Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on his brother. Seeing her son in distress, Sherry Watson, with the help of bystander Blanka Stepankova, took over CPR until BCAS paramedics arrived.
