Backgrounder: Paramedic Games - Northern BC

November 9, 2008

The following paramedic teams from Northern B.C. Region will be facing off against their colleagues at the 2008 BC Ambulance Service Paramedic Games and Education Symposium taking place in Delta from November 7-9.

911 on Wheels: The 2008 Games are the second year of competition for Team 911 on Wheels. The team had so much fun at last year's competition, they wanted to do it again. Team member Julia Strain has over 11 years of experience as a paramedic and has worked in Granisle and at her current post in Smithers. What she loves about being a paramedic is the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life and helping people when they need it most.

Darwin's Nightmare: Team member Mark Rivard works at the ambulance station in Fort St. James and his teammates Laine Smith and Drew Hunsaker are paramedics in Vanderhoof. Rivard says he enjoys being a paramedic because from day to day, he is never exactly sure what challenges he will face.
