In the back of an ambulance is how you would usually expect to travel to hospital when you call 911, but a more creative method of transportation was needed to bring a patient from Shalath to Lillooet on January 14, 2008.
The call for help came in at 17:26 to respond to three patients who were suffering from neck pain, due to a motor vehicle accident they had been involved in earlier that day. Don and Barb knew that the woman needed to be at hospital as soon as possible, the closest facility being Lillooet hospital approximately 75 km away. They also knew that they would not be able to transport her by road, with the highway between Shalath and Lillooet closed due to an avalanche hazard, or by boat, with the BC Hydro boat unavailable due to weather.
Some creative thinking lead Don to call for assistance on the CN Rail radio channel.
