April 29, 2009
On April 29, a presentation was held on Salt Spring Island to recognize the EMS agencies that assisted with the fire at the Salt Spring Island ambulance station and the BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) crews involved.
During the ceremony, Chuck Hamilton, the Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue Area Coordinator, was presented with an appreciation plaque for the hospitality his team showed BCAS. Since the fire, Chuck's team has allowed BCAS crews to temporarily operate out of the Search and Rescue building, enabling BCAS to continue to deliver service to island residents without any interruption or impact to service.
Chief Dave Enfield from the Salt Spring Fire Rescue and his team were also recognized for their efforts in fighting the fire. While the station could not be saved, the assistance of Salt Spring Fire Fighters enabled BCAS to save much needed equipment, possessions and records.
BCAS believes that its partnerships with other emergency service providers are invaluable and looks forward to continuing to work with the exceptional members of the Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue Team to meet the needs of the community.
