On June 13 and 14, 2008, paramedic educators from the BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) joined counterparts from across the country for the SPEC conference, a professional development convention designed to provide attendees with an opportunity to exchange ideas. Hosted by SPEC, a national organization committed to establishing and promoting excellence in pre-hospital education through research, leadership, and fellowship, the weekend featured a variety of sessions and panel discussions on common topics of interest.
Such sessions included: More than just a Pretty ECG: What is High Fidelity Simulation in an EMS Setting, Teaching and Learning in EMS Education and an Interactive Session titled: Defining Clinical Judgment in EMS. In addition, participants took advantage of case studies and program reviews including: BCAS ACP Residency, Mentor and Preceptor program, BCAS CPR Update Program: a program review with 4 levels of Kirkpatrick Evaluation; and a presentation on the SAFER course [Situation Awareness for Emergency Responders].
