Recently, Shawn Carby, BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) Executive Director for the Vancouver Island Region dropped the puck to show his support for the Region's hockey team the Islanders; made up of full-time, part time, civilian and retired BCAS employees.
BCAS hockey teams have an opportunity to showcase their skills every April, when paramedics from across the Province meet in Kamloops to participate in a mini two day tournament. All teams are comprised of paramedics from one of BCAS' four regions and typically 6-8 teams attend the event. Sanctioned by both BCAS and CUPE Union 873, 2008 represented the 7th year that paramedics have convened to play. Paramedics play for the love of the sport, to keep physical fit and to promote team morale.
