BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) Nelson paramedics are teaming up with the Nelson Blueliners Women's Hockey team, Nelson City Police and the Nelson RCMP on April 19, 2008 to play hockey and raise money for fellow paramedic, hockey player, and friend Courtney Allen. Courtney has been struck by scleroderma, a debilitating disease that leads to hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues, damages blood vessels, and in more severe cases affects internal organs such as the pancreas, kidneys, heart and lungs. BCAS members, first responder colleagues, and friends will face off at centre ice in the Nelson Civic Centre Arena starting at 7:00 pm. The game will include a silent auction, 50/50 draw, and other activities to raise funds for Allen and research into the disease.
