Paramedic Ascends Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer's Society

March 4, 2010

BC Ambulance Service paramedic Alana O'Connell is preparing for her ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft) in Tanzania as part of Ascent for Alzheimer's 2010. Alana is one of ten people who have been chosen to represent British Columbia in the fundraising event and will be hiking in honour of her mom who passed away from the disease.

Each team member has agreed to raise a minimum of $10,000 in donations - 100% of which goes to support Alzheimer's research and programs. Participants pay their own expenses. The strenuous hike is symbolic of the mountainous daily struggle faced by those impacted by Alzheimer's disease and their families.
