On March 10, BC Ambulance Service Mill Bay paramedic Mike Wright received a surprise visit from a young boy that he resuscitated several weeks earlier. During the call, Mike took over CPR from his four year old patient's father and administered three shocks with the AED, bringing young Joshua Balfour back.
BCAS Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics met the crew and the boy was transported to Vancouver General Hospital. Joshua was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease as an infant and received a new heart on January 15, 2010.
Five weeks after the operation, Joshua and his family stopped by the Mill Bay station to say a special thanks to Mike, the ALS crew, the Mill Bay Fire Department and everyone involved in their son's care.
