BCAS Staffer Helps Tsunami Ravaged Samoa

February 22, 2010

BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) employee Debbie Futter spent January 12-26, 2010 giving back as part of a 14 member relief team in Tsunami ravaged Samoa. While in Samoa the team gave out gifts of backpacks, clothes and toys for children. They also rolled up their sleeves; picking up sheet metal and other debris the roadsides, digging 'pit's for latrines, building a toilet and framing the first floor of a house.

Many Samoans are only part-way through the rebuilding process due to lack of finances available from the government. Aside from purchasing building materials, the team used the majority of the $10,000 they raised to financially assist 15 families. Debbie thanks her colleagues who contributed financially and in kind. Her team's small part in the post-tsunami cleanup went a long way to raising hope a world away in a handful of Samoan villages.
