BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) paramedics, Emergency Medical Call-takers, Emergency Medical Dispatchers and support staff have an impact that reaches far beyond the incredibly important job of saving lives. Leaders in their communities, they devote countless volunteer service hours to public education initiatives and campaigns, ensuring that British Columbians have the information they need to prevent personal injury and illness and provide vital assistance to others during medical emergencies.
Some of the programs BCAS is involved in on a volunteer basis include: the High School CPR program, an initiative aimed at establishing CPR training in every secondary school in BC by 2010, and the PARTY program, a one-day, in-hospital, injury awareness and prevention program designed to reduce death and injury in alcohol, drug and risk-related crashes and incidents among youth. BCAS also develops and delivers Public Service Announcements on an ongoing basis.
