BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) paramedics, Emergency Medical Call-takers and Emergency Medical Dispatchers are more than the trusted figures we rely on to offer support and assistance during difficult times. They are also dedicated members of their communities, devoting immeasurable volunteer service hours to local initiatives and events to help improve the lives of the people around them. Following is a sample of some of the ways BCAS employees from across the province are working to give back to their communities.

  1. June 10, 2011 Good Samaritans Recognized for Actions

    On June 10, BCAS paramedics Allan Maciak and Dave Carlson presented Good Samaritan awards to the Ladner Leisure Center Lifeguards and a bystander, Matt Pomeroy, for their actions in rescuing a young patient who was found unconscious and unresponsive on the bottom of the swimming pool.
  2. June 9, 2011 The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer

    This year, BCAS EMD Shawn Proznick is participating in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day major cycling event which benefits BC Cancer Foundation to support cancer research, treatment, and services.
  3. June 9, 2011 Premier's Innovation and Excellence Awards

    The Integrated Public Safety Unit has won a Premier's Innovation and Excellence Award in the Cross Government Integration category.
  4. May 6, 2011 Paramedics Showcase Skills at National Competition

    Two teams of BCAS paramedics competed in the Canadian National Paramedic Competition in Oshawa, Ontario.
  5. May 5, 2011 EMS Week Celebrates Paramedics

    EMS week (May 15 to 21, 2011) is an opportunity to celebrate paramedics.
  6. February 22, 2011 BCAS Provides CPR & Defibrillator Training in Hazelton

    BCAS Unit Chiefs provided CPR and defibrillator training to several high school staff members in Hazelton.

  7. February 22, 2011 Paramedics to be Honoured at Richmond 911 Awards

    The 9th annual Richmond Chamber of Commerce 911 Awards, recognizing emergency responders in this community, will be held on April 27.
  8. December 22, 2010 Honouring Excellence

    Twenty BCAS employees received EMS Exemplary Service awards.
  9. December 22, 2010 BCAS Paramedics Answer the Call

    BCAS paramedics volunteer with the Canadian Medical Assistance Teams, an organization that seeks to improve the health and welfare of families in Canada and in developing countries.
