The BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) offers a wide range of training and continuing education opportunities including: interactive face-to-face courses delivered throughout the province, professional development events and online training courses through the BCAS Learning Centre.
Continuing education and training initiatives are managed by the Clinical Education Division, who work to establish short and long term education schedules that meet the diverse training requirements of each BCAS region. Supporting the Clinical Education Division is the Field Education Planning Council, a committee of BCAS Directors, Managers, field representatives and Clinical Education and Occupational Health and Safety staff, who assess training priorities and gather input from employees to ensure education strategies are aligned with paramedic and Emergency Medical Dispatcher needs.
Delivering these education programs are the Regional Training Officers (RTOs), the face of the Clinical Education Division, who provide the local leadership necessary to bring important training to the field. Specifically, RTOs coordinate the implementation of training programs throughout the province, participate in the selection of instructors and provide valuable input into course development to ensure that course offerings are both high quality and relevant to practitioners.
