Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board: The Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB) is a body separate from the BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) that oversees the licensing and examination of paramedics and first responders within BC. Empowered by the Emergency and Health Services Act, the EMALB is responsible for ensuring that all practitioners involved with pre-hospital emergency care are licensed in a consistent manner. The distinction between the BCAS and the EMALB is that the BCAS is the employer of paramedics and the EMALB oversees the licensing of paramedics. While there is a close working relationship between BCAS and the EMALB, they are two separate entities.
