Professional Development Events and Programs

BC Ambulance Service supports several province-wide professional development events and programs, which are designed to provide employees with ongoing education and mentorship opportunities. One such example is the Paramedic Games and Education Symposium, an annual teambuilding weekend that sees paramedics from across the province come together to exchange ideas, attend workshop sessions and engage in mock-incident scenarios with their colleagues. These competitions provide BCAS paramedics with an opportunity to bond with their colleagues, as well as share best practices so that in the event of true emergencies they are ready and able to provide the best care possible to their patients.

The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Residency Program is another way BCAS is working to ensure paramedics have the support and resources they need to provide the best care possible to patients. Established in early 2007, this new hire orientation program assists new ACP graduates in becoming independent practitioners.
