Emergency and Health Services Commission

The BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) operates under the authority of the Emergency and Health Services Commission (EHSC), per the Emergency and Health Services Act. The EHSC is mandated to ensure both the provision of emergency health services, delivered through the BCAS, and the provision of non-emergency health and tele-health information services, through HealthlinkBC.

In addition to a reporting relationship with the Ministry of Health Services, the Commission receives direction from the EHSC Board of Directors, which is comprised of representatives from the Fraser, Interior and Northern Health Authorities and the Ministry of Health Services Executive Committee.

BCAS Senior Executive

The BCAS Chief Operating Officer (COO) is the senior executive responsible for the BCAS and in this role assumes operational responsibility for the Service. The COO is also the chair of the Senior Operating Team, which functions as the primary lead in moving key operational initiatives forward. Comprised of six Executive Directors, representing each BCAS region, Dispatch Operations and Provincial Programs, the role of the Senior Operating Team is to work closely with Corporate Services in the development and implementation of strategies to support the goals of the BCAS.
